Oppression describes the unjust treatment of a group of people based on identity (e.g., race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, class, migration history). Institutions and individuals can be oppressors. The intended outcome of oppression is to disconnect, marginalize, and isolate.

Oppression causes disconnection and harm to individuals, families, and communities. Oppression-based stress is a term we used to describe the emotional and physical stress caused by oppression. Connection, or Reconnection, aims to resist oppression across these levels.

Reconnect

The Reconnect Program teaches strategies for reconnection as well as resistance and coping skills for reducing oppression-based stress. We are currently offering Reconnect groups focused on resisting anti-black racism. We will soon be offering additional Reconnect groups for LGBTQ+ people and for immigrants and refugees.
